Position Summary:

The Director of Community Outreach and Engagement will play a crucial role in ZERO's health equity project “Blitz the Barriers”, focusing on reducing prostate cancer disparities in underserved communities. This position will lead strategic community engagement initiatives, oversee outreach programs, and foster partnerships to enhance prostate cancer awareness, screening, and support services in target communities.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities: 

  1. Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive community engagement and outreach strategies aligned with the ZERO Health Equity Project goals.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President to set objectives, timelines, and key performance indicators for community initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and support to local Community Engagement Committees (CECs) in pilot communities.
 

2. Program Management:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of community-based prostate cancer awareness and screening programs.
  • Manage relationships with local stakeholders, including healthcare providers, community-based organizations, and volunteers.
  • Coordinate with the Patient Navigation and Measurement & Evaluation teams to ensure integrated program delivery and impact assessment.
 

3. Partnership Development:

  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with local organizations, including Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), primary care providers, safety net hospitals, and urology practices.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community-based organizations (CBOs) to expand ZERO's reach and impact.
  • Collaborate with non-traditional partners to identify diverse candidates for volunteering and patient navigation support.
 

4. Community Engagement:

  • Lead the organization and execution of community roundtables, outreach events, and health fairs in target communities.
  • Engage with local community leaders, healthcare professionals, and advocates to promote prostate cancer awareness and early detection.


 

5. Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor community engagement Manager staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a culture of inclusivity, cultural competence, and community-centered approach within the team.
 

6. Data and Reporting:

  • Work closely with the Director of Measurement and Evaluation to collect and analyze community-level data on program impact.
  • Contribute to the development of white papers, reports, and presentations on project outcomes and best practices.
  • Prepare regular reports on community engagement activities, challenges, and successes for leadership and stakeholders.
 

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Community Development, Social Work, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in community engagement, public health outreach, or related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse, underserved communities and addressing health disparities.
  • Strong understanding of health equity principles and social determinants of health.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain partnerships with various stakeholders.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Proficiency in project management and data analysis.
  • Passion for ZERO's mission and commitment to reducing prostate cancer disparities.


 

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant use of a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as computer printer, calculator, and copier. 
  • Prolonged periods of a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
  • The ability to recognize details at close range for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

This role will report directly to the Vice President of Outreach and Engagement and will work closely with the Community Engagement and Outreach team to support ZERO’s mission to end prostate cancer. 

This position is based remotely and candidates may live in any area within the United States. This position will require nationwide travel approximately 20% of the time (twice per quarter)
